About Red
My name is: Lauren
My age is: 26
I live in: the suburbs of Southeastern PA
I can't live without: T-Fal nonstick skillet, Cuisinart food processor, fresh lemon juice, John Frieda blonde products, my book collection, public libraries, hot tea, discount travel websites, The Office, whiskey sours, Dijon mustard, my $20 blush-colored Anthropologie cardigan, my hubby
Favorite thing to cook: Wine stews with crusty bread
Current food obsessions: French bistro food, squash, gratins, spicy chai, reinventing chicken dinner
Next trip: TBD! January 2014
What I do: Freelance writer and copyeditor, fulltime graduate student on my way to a Masters in English and a Masters Certificate in Communication
How I met Little/Petite/Kaitlin: High school French class; my favorite bonding moments were when we literally cooked duck in a microwave for our French Christmas party, and when we snuck onto private property in Paris to taste sweet, French honeysuckles off the vine.

About Little
Name: Kaitlin
Age: 26
Location: Southwest Virginia
Life: I live with my husband and our two cats in a two-bedroom apartment that is in a constant state of redecoration. My husband isn’t big on change, but he’s learned to embrace it! I love to cook, and my husband’s gluten intolerance encourages me to think outside the box. We love to travel, hike, and camp, so we’re thrilled to be back in the mountains. We also love to entertain, so friends and family are a big part of our lives.
Earning a Living: I teach at a local college and also sell handmade jewelry at Readlikeabook.
Making things: I sew, paint, stencil, build, sculpt—really, whatever my constant DIY projects require, which keeps me on my toes. The challenge is half the reason I make things myself. Being under 5 feet tall also means that I've had to learn to hem and alter clothing out of necessity. There will be a lot of petite-friendly posts here for that very reason. ;-)
Things I love to death: Scarves, lists, good food, good music, my husband, my friends and family, excellent coffee, breakfast in the morning, farmer's markets, change, a good book, fall weather.
Cooking (and eating) things: My recipes will tend to avoid grains and refined/processed foods, instead focusing on meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. (Cheese and I are bros, though, so that’s not going anywhere.) Although I’m probably only ‘paleo’ 80-90% of the time, doing a Whole30 earlier this year changed the way I’ll think about food forever. It’ll certainly change the posts I put up on here! (Disclaimer: I eat and cook the way my body tells me to, so I can’t say how my cooking style will work for you (it might not!). If you’re interested in the paleo lifestyle, though, there’s a ton of great information (and recipes) HERE and HERE.)
How Petite (Little) and Rouge (Red) came to be:
Stemming from a love of the French language and cuisine (especially microwaved duck, see above), Lauren started calling me "Petite" early on. It was only after our fateful trip to France and a terrible sunburn that "Rouge" came about. Sneaking around Montmartre and being yelled at by a priest for laughing in a Rocamadour chapel were easily some of our best moments.
